Work Drama

On, I think it was, Wednesday I got a call from a friend of mine letting me know that I may not have a job in Pullman to come back to. Since Wednesday, whether I have a job or not has been up in the air.

Apparently during break, two days before Christmas, Keith and Jan (owners) had Alyssa (manager) over for dinner before she left for break. During dinner Keith and Jan had a little bit of a tiff and then decided to close down the on-campus cafe location (where I worked). The in-between story is not important. But I did get the call, from Evan, two days before I was coming back to Pullman that I might not have a job because Jan told Evan that they are letting all of the employees from the on campus location, keep the other downtown employees on staff. May I explain that I have worked at both, however, I mostly worked on the on campus location. But with this situation I would be "let go" from the job.

When I got back into town yesterday, Friday, I need to figure out if I still had a job or not. I went and talked to Alyssa again, asked her if I should, honestly, look for another job and her answer was yes. But the big problem was she didn't really know what was going on either until at least Saturday, when she was going to meet with Keith. Then why would I know if I had a job or not? Because Keith was going to let Alyssa know what he has decided-- who he was going to keep, AND IF (another element of suprise) he would re-open the on campus location with just the coffee part. Anyways later today (Saturday) I recieved a text message from Alyssa to let me know I still have a job (YAY!) however, as she put it in the text "it will be the survival of the fittest." Meaning, we are going to have to fight for the hours that we want and need.

The good news is that I don't need many hours this semester but this puts me in a tough spot because if something else comes up with this cafe, will I know if I have a job or come to work one day without one. Because as of right now, I still don't techinically know anything about anything going on with this drama. Nobody else on the staff with the exception of Evan, the manager, and I know about the drama. I submitted my application to another place and they told me even if they don't have a spot for me this semester to turn in my application again in April for the summer, so I would get more hours.

In the end, I am not sure what is going on still. Everything still feels up in the air. I will keep you all updated.
