Kid Layers

"A grownup is a child with layers."
-Woody Allen

The big 2-4. One year from now will be the quarter-life crisis...
...Okay, I cannot even say that with a straight face. My 20's have been wonderful, and I haven't even hit the mid-20's yet. I definitely do not want to recap all of my 20's thus far, but believe me-- they have been great.
This past year has been of a reality check, stopping to smell the roses, and figuring life out. Twenty-three has been a real roller-coaster. It is hard to believe that last year, on my birthday, I was just starting student teaching, and then six...seven... eight months later I landed a teaching job. Year later, I am doing what I love-- my passion.
At school students were asking how old I was turning, and yes I told them. One response: Ms. Curtiss, you are the youngest teacher I have EVER had-- you cannot be a teacher!! You are too young!
I had the best birthday presents at school because high school kids were showing their true colors; showing appreciation. During first period some student caught wind that it was my birthday, so they decided they had to sing happy birthday... continued on into advisory. After ballroom dance (yes, for those who are unaware, I am an advisor for that club) I was walking back to my room. One of my best friends little brother yelled happy birthday across the commons, and the dominos fell... Another loud student caught on and three or four big, loud boys started yelling down the hallways HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Needless to say, I did get many nice cards from students and thank you's for being a great teacher.
I don't feel old enough to be a teacher, and I am just a big kid. At times it is hard to see it due to the day-to-day grind, but the inner-child is still around. That is one of the huge reasons I love high school age student; they make you stop and smell the roses. They make you have fun, even when you are not having a good day.
Needless to say, I had a wonderful day. Maybe I should go color... :)
