Man oh man alive! Student teaching is going quickly, perhaps too fast because it feels as if I cannot stay caught up. I have heard from numerous sources that this does not stop after student teaching, especially the first couple years of teaching.
This past week, although a 4-day week, it seemed longer. Tuesday was a sprint to the end of the day. As the first day back from a 4-day weekend, I knew it was going to be a struggle with the students, especially since they would not remember anything about Hamlet. I was trying to decide how to refresh the student's memory about the text, but keep caught up with what we are supposed to be reading. Furthermore, my first Performance- Based Pedagogy Assessment (PPA) was being conducted-- FIRST PERIOD! What does that phrase mean? http://www.k12.wa.us/certification/profed/PPA.aspx If you are really curious about the documents I had to prepare, my observation, and everything I had to do... that is the link. Out of the 57 things I need to pass, I passed 47. In the end, that is great because now I only have 10 left to pass. But Tuesday was crazy since there was an hour of debriefing with my supervisor. During that hour, I have to move rooms and change prepare and get ready for the classes. But, when the supervisor keeps you until 2 minutes before the bell rings, 4th period becomes a bit hectic. For the most part my 4th period are easy going and helped me out.
In the end, it was a pretty good week. Sixth period is still a little trying. I was able to grab a drink with a friend on Saturday night who is also student teaching. He and I swapped stories and are having the same troubles. I am not feeling as bad about the teaching thing.
Week number four begins tomorrow...
