Fresh starts. Thanks to the calendar, they happen every year. Everybody sets their watch for January. This is our reward for surviving the holiday season: a new year. A brand new, fresh start. This brings the great tradition of New Year's resolutions. Put your past behind you, and start over. Although some do not believe in resolutions-- it is hard to resist the chance at the new beginning. This is a prime opportunity to put the problems of last year to bed.
But who determines when the old ends, and the new begins? New Years is just a day on a calendar; just like a birthday. New Years is an event. It can be either big or small. It has the potential to change, but on the other hand to stay the same. But in the end, people enjoy the holiday because it gives hope. The symbol of New Year is a baby, there is no better way to remind people of 'new life' than a baby. The new year is a new way of living and looking at the world. Letting go of old habits, old memories-- whether good or bad. What's important is that we never stop believing in a new beginning.
And that among the bad things, that there are still things really worth holding on to. With those things to hold on to, hold on tight and do not let them go.
