Writing is quite personal, analyzing and commenting on writing is difficult. In the grammar class I am taking, we are analyzing our own pieces of writing. The professor who is also my advisor is having us reading papers we have written, figure out what is wrong and set a goal for our writing to improve it throughout the semester. Sound easy? It is harder than you think...

1.3 Dangling Modifiers
1.4 Wrong or Missing Preposition
1.5 Double Negative
1.6 The Absolute

2.3 No Comma After and Introductory Element
2.4 No Comma in a Nonrestictive Element

2.6 Lack of a Commas in a Series

etc... etc... there is more and more!! So much to pick from. Let me know what YOU would work on ;)

Ha! This makes me so glad I am not a college student. I hate having to improve myself. However, I have my own list of grammar pet peeves that drive me crazy when reading something written by someone else.
Improper use of the 's vs s' is HIGH on my list - this would be Jen's blog, not Jens blog or (worse yet) Jens' blog - argh! I know it's confusing, but there are rules of thumb to help people keep it straight. Oh - its vs it's is another one!
