Added Prayer

Last night when I was driving home from work I received a phone call- one which I definitely did not except for a couple reasons. First reason because, although we are really good friends, Megan and I don't talk too often. Megan is my friend that got married a couple years ago to her high school sweetheart- Brandon whom I am friends with as well. Anyways, they moved to North Carolina when Brandon got stationed there. Brandon was deployed to Iraq a couple months ago, I haven't heard too much about it until last night. When I looked at my phone to see Megan's name on the caller ID I was a little curious as to why she was calling, I soon enough found out. When I answered I knew in her voice something was wrong. The first words was that Brandon was not hurt and is okay, however, his best friend committed suicide. One of the routines that the boys do are called watches, his friend was doing the night watch, Brandon was headed up to relieve him, instead Brandon walked up to his best friend who shot himself. Megan said that they were really close, so please keep Brandon in your prayers. As I talked to Megan about it for a while last night, it never truly hits home until you actually know somebody. It is always talked about the high suicide rates of men in the military in Iraq, however, it now truly hits home.

On the flip side, another close friend of mine, Chris, called me yesterday before I was headed to class. Apparently he recieved a phone call from Harvard law, he had been offically accepted. He already committed to University of Chicago law school and signed a contract. He said he already talked to his parents about whether to break the contract or not, however, he needed an unbiased perspective and voice in the matter- apparently that is me. We talked for quite a while before I had to cut him off to go to class. I think that he finally made a decision that he is able to be happy with- sticking with Chicago.

What else is going on? The snow stopped coming down again, the sun is back! I decided I am looking for another job because it is so slow in the restaurant industry that I keep getting sent home early since I am the first person on, I need more hours so I am searching- keep your fingers crossed. Today (Friday) is the last day of the first session of summer classes, Monday begins the last session. Oh Oh Oh! I am really enjoying researching William Blake, the paper I am writing about it will be done in a couple weeks, but Blake (although a little dark) is interesting to think about as to why people wrote what they did.

Okay, don't get me wrong, I love my short hair but sometimes... just sometimes it has it's own mind; just like above. I really wish that this camera did it justice, but it really doesn't. That flip was all on it's own...

The last bit of news, this might be exciting for me because I never thought of myself as an athletic person until now. But Monika, Amber, and I are doing a relay triathlon (hopefully) in November on the west side, I am pretty sure that it is during my Thanksgiving break. This is why we haven't signed up yet, I need to double check some stuff out. But, anyways, I will be running, Monika will bike, and Amber will swim. But as of right now I timed six miles the other day, not as fast as I would like it to be but, for long distance it isn't bad... 53:11 (not bad)
