Dedication, apparently

In snow, sleet, ice, 29 degree weather... whatever the weather conditions apparently there are some dedicated runners to take on the 5k run this morning. My friend Katie and I were going to meet at 8 am to walk to the rec to sign-in and get ready to go. Because of the ice that was on the ground, especially since the run was on side roads, we weren't fully sure if we would walk it or run it- we did not want to hurt ourselves. Well, after we arrived- in all of the excitement and energy we just decided to run. At first we were just jogging, we thought slow and steady would definitely do the trick because of the ice, cold air is hard to breathe, and the snow that started to come down...

As my friend and I were running, we didn't realize of how fast we were apparently taking the run. We thought through the entire race that we were slow and in slow motion, perhaps because of the cold.

We were passing people, to say the least we were not in the front which was definitely not the goal of the entire thing. So we saw the finish line-- already, but picked up a knotch to finish the run quite fast. And bam, already finished at 27:15 minutes. It was quite suprising, we looked at each other and looked a the timer as if that was not the right time.

Both of us, surpised, figured that we could have shead some more minutes off of that time IF the weather did permit to be warmer, not having to wear long pants, the wind, snow, ice, etc... Maybe next time... just maybe. That is the shirt we earned for the run. The proceeds went to a conservation place which is pretty cool I guess. There is a Bloomsday run in Spokane on May 4th, I could do that... just maybe. That would be a 12k which is about 7.5 miles or so! SWEET
